BIPOC Therapy in Glendale

You want to be able to talk to someone who gets you, the dynamic in your family, the challenges a person of color faces every day.

You’re having trouble coping, feeling like you can’t get your head above water, you don’t know how to deal with your feelings. You want to find a therapist you can connect to and feel comfortable working with. It might feel impossible to find that great connection other people talk about with their therapist. It might sound unrealistic to find a therapist who you don’t have to explain every part of your experience to, someone you don’t have to edit yourself around.

I know how you feel. I’ve gone through the same struggle. It’s an awful feeling to make the call, open yourself up, brace yourself to do the hard work, and ultimately get disappointed by a therapist who doesn’t understand how to help you.

It’s not only white people who struggle with mental health issues. Our community deals with things like depression, PTSD, and anxiety. In the US, 17% of blacks, 15% of Latinos, 13% of Asians, 23% of Native Americans, and 25% of multiracial individuals report struggling with a mental health issue (American Psychiatric Association). The sad truth is many black, indigenous, people of color don’t access mental health care because they can’t find therapists that look like them.

I want to change your experience of mental health care. I want to show you that it is possible to find a place where you can be yourself and feel seen.

How I Help - Therapy with a BIPOC Therapist

I will work with you through the lens of a person of color who understands your struggles. I will help you address things you may have never talked about growing up. I will respect the importance of your culture while also helping you explore your personal values and whatever isn’t serving you.

Work with a Therapist with Shared Experiences

Develop Insight and Understanding

I will help you learn about yourself. You may have been told that feelings were something you had to push down or get over. I will help you learn that isn’t true and there’s a better, more effective way to deal with those tough feelings. We’ll work together to overcome the negative thoughts that are weighing you down and change the patterns that are holding you back.

Learn Coping Tools

With my help, you will be able to recognize and understand your emotions so they no longer overwhelm you. I will give you tools for how to deal with things like sadness, loneliness, and insecurity. You will learn how to be self-compassionate so you can support yourself when you’re going through a hard time. You’ll develop a toolbox you can feel confident about so you can pursue the things that are important to you.
